The 68th edition of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival will take place between July 1 and August 21, 2022. On this occasion, the city’s spectacular Roman Theatre will host nine national and international productions, with a strong female presence, featuring music, dance and, of course, the very best classics.
As part of the festival, ORDUÑA 1755 SL supplied the fabric for a distinctive set design for the production of Sappho, staged from July 6 to 10, made with fire-retardant fabric: Guadiana 250 g in pink, secured with darker pink ropes, highlighting the work’s femininity.
One aspect that stands out in the production is, as its creator and stage director Marta Pazos acknowledged, that it “connects eroticism and free love with celebrating life”, while also managing to turn classic poetry into song with a contemporary pop rhythm.
As every year, the festival will once again be accessible, with audio-described and subtitled performances, a hearing loop, and headphone amplification at the Roman Theatre and its other venues.
